President Ram Nath Kovind Presents Nari Shakti Awards
On the occasion of International Women's Day, President Ram Nath Kovind presented the Nari Shakti Awards 2018 in New Delhi on March 8, 2019. It is the highest civilian honour for women in India. The award was given out to forty one women and three institutions.
Renovated Handloom Haat Inaugurated
The Union Minister for Textiles Smriti Irani inaugurated the renovated Handloom Haat at Janpath, New Delhi on March 5, 2019. The refurbishing work to make the building of Haat more attractive, was taken up in 2018. The main objective of the Haat is to support handloom agencies so as to promote and increase the sale of handloom products. A booklet on World Handmade Textile Biennales was also released by Smriti Irani.
Rajdhani Express Completes 50 Years
The first Rajdhani Express of the Indian Railways network completed 50 years on March 3, 2019. Kolkata’s Howrah Rajdhani Express was the first Rajdhani Express train and the very first fully air-conditioned train introduced by the Indian Railways. It embarked upon its maiden journey from Howrah on March 3, 1969.
Second Edition of Indian Sign Language Dictionary Launched
The Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre (ISLRTC) released the second edition of the Indian Sign Language dictionary at India International Center in New Delhi on February 27, 2019. The first edition of the Indian Sign Language Dictionary with 3000 words was launched on March 23, 2018. This edition has 6,000 words in Hindi and English along with their corresponding graphic representation.
META Lifetime Achievement Award 2019
Eminent Indian playwright Mahesh Elkunchwar will be the recipient of the Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (META) Lifetime Achievement Award 2019. He will receive the award during the Mahindra Theatre Festival on March 12, 2019.
World's Largest Bhagavad Gita
PM Narendra Modi unveiled the world's largest Bhagavad Gita at the ISKCON temple in New Delhi's East of Kailash on February 26, 2019. Dubbed as the 'Astounding Bhagavad Gita', it runs into 670 pages and weighs 800 kg.
44th Global Summit of IAA
The International Advertising Association (IAA) organised the 44th edition of its global summit at Grand Hyatt-Lulu Convention Centre in Kochi from February 20-22, 2019. The theme of this year's summit was, 'Brand Dharma, What's coming next?'.

A documentary about the stigma around menstruation in rural India won this year's Oscar for Best Short Documentary. The 26-minute India-based film is titled, 'Period. End of Sentence'.
