Iranian Film wins Award at Kerala Film Festival
Iranian film The Dark Room, directed by Rouhollah Hejazi won the Suvarna Chakoram (Golden Crow Pheasant) award at the 23rd International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) which concluded in Thiruvananthapuram on December 13, 2018. The award for best director went to Lijo Jose Pellissery for his film “Ee.Ma.Yau” from India.
Jnanpith Award for Amitava Ghosh
Jnanpith Award is a literary award given to an author for "outstanding contribution towards literature" Bharatiya Jnanpith announced the recipient of this year's award, noted English writer Amitav Ghosh, on December 14, 2018. Ghosh is also recipient of the Padma Shri and Sahitya Akademi Award. The 62-year-old author currently lives in New York with his wife Deborah Baker.
Indian Startup Honoured by UN
Indian startup, HelpUsGreen works to clean up the river Ganga by recycling thousands of tonnes of floral waste from temples. The United Nations honoured the startup for its work at the Nations Climate Action award ceremony in Katowice, Poland on December 11, 2018. According to the UN, the startup flower cycled 11060 metric tonnes of temple waste.
India's Hottest Vegetarians
According to votes on the official website of People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India, Actors Anushka Sharma and Kartik Aaryan have been named India’s Hottest Vegetarians this year. Anushka Sharma is the only woman to bag this title twice. Rajkummar Rao and Alia Bhatt were named India's Hottest Vegetarians by PETA last year.
Sanctuary Wildlife Service Awards 2018
Hyderabad-based conservationist Imran Siddiqui has been honoured with this year's Sanctuary Wildlife Service Award. Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) made the announcement on December 15, 2018. Siddiqui, is an Assistant Director for Conservation Science at WCS-India and monitors tiger in 10,000 sq km.
