EU for Carbon Neutral Economy
The European Union has urged government, businesses, citizens and regions to join in cutting emissions to make the bloc carbon neutral by 2050. The EU climate commissioner Miguel Arias Canete said in a press conference in Brussels that the bloc is kicking off a process to determine the same, on November 28, 2018.
NGT Committee says Shut Down of Sterlite Copper Plant not Justified
A National Green Tribunal (NGT) Committee has ruled that the closure of the Sterlite copper plant in Tamil Nadu is not sustainable and is against natural justice, on November 27, 2018. thus, the closure is not justified. The panel has asked the Central Pollution Control Board to ensure the firm’s compliance with pollution norms.
Policy Formation for Socio-economic Transformation
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Dr. Ambedkar International Centre (DAIC) and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on November 30, 2018. It was signed by the Vice Chancellor of JNU, Prof. M. Jagadesh Kumar and the Director of DAIC, Atul Dev Sarmah. The MoU is to enhance research activities and policy formulation for socio-economic transformation.
NPCC, a Miniratna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE)
National Projects Construction Corporation Limited (NPCC) has been given a Miniratna Status: Category I by the Union Government on November 27, 2018. The upgraded status will enable NPCC to enhance the delegation of powers to the Board for quick decisions. NPCC has also been awarded the ISO 9001:2015 Certification.
