New CPWD Committee for Design Policy

An expert committee has been set up by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) under the chairmanship of CPWD’s Additional Director General M K Sharma. The committee will frame a design policy for building construction and infrastructure development. The eight member committee had to submit its report to Director General Prabhakar Singh within 30 days.


Textile Ministry Seeks Technology Support for Speciality Fibre

The Ministry of Textiles is discussing technological support for speciality fibre and related products with other countries. Two committees have been formed, one for speciality fibre, and the other to foresee how to take the segment forward.


Special Rape Investigation Kits by Ministry of Home Affairs

Over 3,100 special rape investigation kits were distributed by the Ministry of Home Affairs among states and Union Territories. The Sexual Assault Evidence Collection Kits were procured with financial support under the central government’s ‘Nirbhaya Fund’, named after the 2012 Delhi gang-rape victim.


Ban Extended on Milk Product Imports from China


The government extended the ban on imports of milk, milk products, and chocolates from China, on April 23, 2019. The FSSAI had recommended extending the ban until all labs at ports are modernised to test the presence of a toxic chemical, melamine. The ban was first imposed in September 2008 and extended subsequently from time to time.
