Freight Village to be Developed in Varanasi

The Ministry of Shipping approved the development of Rs. 156 crore Freight Village in Varanasi. The decision was reached on December 6, 2018.  The Freight Village will be a designated area where facilities for various modes of transportation, distribution of goods and other logistics will be made available on a large scale.

Four Commonly used Medical Devices now Under Drugs and Cosmetics Act

The Union Ministry of Health has said that four commonly used medical devices will now be included in the definition of drug under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. These devices are nebulisers, blood pressure monitors, digital thermometers and glucometers. This was through a notification dated December 3, 2018. The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) will regulate the import, manufacture and sale of these devices effective from January 1, 2020.



Kerala, Nagaland and Andhra Pradesh to Receive Monetary Assistance

The three states have been affected by natural calamities over the past few months. It has been decided to provide monetary assistance to these states from the National Disaster Response Fund. Kerala will receive Rs. 3,048.39 crore, Nagaland will get Rs. 131.16 crore and Andhra Pradesh will be given Rs. 539.52 crore. The decision was taken in a committee meeting chaired by Home Minister Rajnath Singh on December 6, 2018.

 

'SMART' Initiative Launched for Transformation of Rural Maharashtra

In an effort to escalate the agriculture business, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis launched a unique initiative called 'SMART' on December 5, 2018. It stands for State of Maharashtra’s Agribusiness and Rural Transformation. The project will involve an investment of USD 300 million of which, USD 210 million will be contributed by the World Bank.


Haiderpur in Delhi under NGT Scrutiny

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has asked the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to submit a factual report on encroachments in Haiderpur, Delhi. The report is to be submitted by January 4, 2019. The directions came while NGT took note of a letter from city residents alleging encroachment on government land.

 

MoU Between Ministry of Railways and Madame Tussauds

In a bid to foster tourism in Delhi NCR,  a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the National Rail Museum (NRM), Ministry of Railways and Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, New Delhi, on December 4, 2018. According to the understanding, a special discount of 35% on tickets will be offered to NRM visitors when they visit Madame Tussauds Museum. Similarly, visitors at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum will get a discount of 30% on combo packages of NRM.
