Flood Hit Kerala Students to get Digital Documents from CBSE

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in technical collaboration with National E-Governance Division (NEGD) has developed the first-of-its-kind digital academic repository.  It is called ‘Parinam Manjusha’ and will be integrated with DigiLocker. In a special gesture to students from CBSE affiliated schools in Kerala, CBSE will provide them with digital mark sheets, migration certificates and pass certificates.

MoU Signed Between India and Nepal for Preliminary Survey of Railway Line

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two countries on August 31, 2018, for conducting a preliminary survey of a railway line to connect Raxaul on the Indian border to Kathmandu in Nepal. It was signed by the Indian Ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri and Nepal’s Secretary of Ministry of Physical Planning and Works, Madhusudan Adhikari. This was in Kathmandu in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nepal’s Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli.

Consultation Paper on Family Law Reform

The Consultation Paper on family law reform has been floated by the Law Commission. It discusses a range of provisions within all family laws, secular or personal and suggests a number of changes in the form of potential amendments and fresh enactments.

Atal Rankings for Higher Education Institutions

The Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar launched the Innovation Cell and Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA). This was launched on August 30, 2018  in New Delhi, to promote a culture of innovation and research in higher education.

The Controversial Article 35A

The Supreme Court on August 6, 2018 adjourned the hearing on pleas challenging Constitutional validity of Article 35A pertaining to Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). The court maintained that it will only look into “whether Article 35A goes against the basic structure of Constitution.”

MoU Signed Between GAIL India and Indian Railways for use of Natural Gas

Indian Railways signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GAIL (India) Limited to provide infrastructure facilities for supply of Natural Gas to Indian Railways Workshops, Production Units and Depots on August 30, 2018.It was signed by Chetram, CAO of the Indian Railway Organization for Alternate Fuels (IROAF) and Gajendra Singh, Director (Marketing) of GAIL (India) Limited.

The third edition of world’s biggest open innovation model ‘Smart India Hackathon 2019’ was launched by the Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Prakash Javadekar in New Delhi on August 29, 2018.

Agreement Signed to Improve Power Distribution in Rajasthan

The Union Government, Rajasthan and the World Bank signed a USD 250 million Development Policy Loan (DPL) on August 28, 2018. This is to support Rajasthan in improving the performance of its Electricity Distribution Sector under the State’s ‘24×7 Power for All’ program. It was signed by Sameer Kumar Khare, Joint Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, Union Ministry of Finance; P. Ramesh, Special Secretary of Rajasthan; and Hisham Abdo, Acting Country Director of World Bank India.

MoU Signed for Indore-Manmad Railway Line Project

The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, under the Ministry of Shipping, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Railways, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. The MoU was signed on August 28, 2018  for implementation of the 362 km Indore- Manmad New Railway Line Project.

Lakhwar Project MoU Signed With 6 States

The Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi, and Himachal Pradesh. The MoU was signed on August 28, 2018 for the construction of the Rs 3966.51 crore Lakhwar Multi-Purpose projects in the Upper Yamuna Basin near Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The Lakhwar project was initially approved in 1976 but work on the project was suspended in 1992.
