Lions Dead in Gir Forest
13 lions, lionesses and cubs have died in a span of one week in the Dalkhaniya range of Gir forest. The forest, situated in the Gir Somnath district of Gujarat, is home to 523 lions according to the census of 2015. Eight deaths have been attributed to a clash between two prides. Post-mortem reports are awaited on the others. The state government has ordered an inquiry.
Airport in Odisha to be Named after Freedom Fighter
A unanimous resolution was passed by the state assembly of Odisha for the naming of the newly-built Jharsuguda airport. It has been decided to name it after renowned freedom fighter Veer Surendra Sai.

The Hindu launched its online store to commemorate 140 years of The Hindu Group. The online store of the Hindu Lounge offers a vast variety of collectibles. The store has been operating on the second floor of the Express Avenue mall in Chennai since December 24, 2017.
India Develops Cooling Action Plan (ICAP), First Country to Do So
The International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer was observed by the United Nations on September 16. The Union Minister for Environment, Harsh Vardhan released the draft of India Cooling Action Plan (ICAP) to commemorate the day, on September 17. This outlines actions required to reduce the cooling demand, thus reducing emissions. A booklet on ‘Montreal Protocol – India’s Success Story’ was also released by the minister. The Montreal Protocol, ‘Keep Cool and Carry on' is the theme of this year's World Ozone Day celebrations.
