Manipur Chief Minister Awarded ‘Champions of Change’
Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh received the ‘Champions of Change’ award by Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu on December 26, 2018. The award was in recognition of his leadership role in transforming the governance in the state.
More Houses for Urban Poor
The Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee held its 41st meeting in New Delhi on December 27, 2018. The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs approved the construction of more houses for the urban poor, in the meeting. A total of 3,10,597 more affordable houses will be constructed with a total cost of Rs. 14,662 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).
Best Capital City in the Swachh Survekshan 2018
The Swachh Survekashan was launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) under Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban). The survey ranks cities on various sanitation parameters. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has been awarded Best Capital City in the Solid Waste Management in the Swachh Survekshan 2018 rankings.
Temperature in Kashmir Touched Minus Seven
For the first time in 28 years, Srinagar experienced a minimum temperature of -7°C on December 27, 2018. The last known minimum temperature was -8.8°C on December 7, 1990.
40% Concession For Transgender Senior Citizens in Trains
Indian Railways has announced a 40% concession in fares for a person of the third gender, aged 60 years or above, will be available from January 1, 2019.
Khalistan Liberation Force Banned under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA)
The Union Government banned the Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) under the UAPA 1967 on December 27, 2018. Exercising its powers conferred by Section 35 of UAPA, the central government added ‘Khalistan liberation force and all its manifestations’ as the 40th entry in First Schedule of UAPA that lists terrorist outfits. The KLF was founded in 1986 for acquiring an independent Khalistan by secession of Punjab from India "through violent means".
