Adultery is no Longer a Crime

Section 497 of the Indian Penal Code was struck down by a five judge bench of the Supreme Court on September 27, 2018. CJI Dipak Misra, Justices R.F. Nariman, A.M. Khanwilkar, D.Y. Chandrachud and Indu Malhotra were part of the five judge bench that delivered the judgement on the adultery law. While passing the judgement, CJI Dipak Misra said that adultery could form the basis for civil issues including divorce, but can no longer be termed as a criminal offence.


Second Anniversary of the Surgical Strike Across the LoC

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Parakram Parv exhibition of the Indian Army on September 28, 2018. Organised at the military station, Jodhpur, the exhibition marks the second anniversary of the historic Surgical Strike by India against Pakistan in 2016.


Women Finally Allowed Inside Sabarimala Temple

The ban on women, between the age of 10 to 50, from entering the Sabarimala temple in Kerala ended on September 28, 2018. The judgement, led by the Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra was passed by the Supreme Court ending a centuries old tradition of the temple.


Jharsuguda Airport Inaugurated by the PM

The Prime Minister inaugurated the Jharsuguda airport in Odisha on September 22, 2018. He also flagged off the first flight on the Jharsuguda-Raipur sector. Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and the Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram, were present on the occasion.
