Sardar Singh Retires from International Hockey

Former India hockey skipper Sardar Singh formally announced his retirement from international hockey at a press conference in Chandigarh on September 13, 2018. He has represented India twice at the Olympics and is also a recipient of the awards, Arjuna in 2012 and Padma Shri in 2015.

Jhulan Goswami Creates History in Women's Cricket

The Indian pacer Jhulan Goswami became the 1st player in women's cricket to take 300 international wickets. She reached this figure after India beat Sri Lanka by nine wickets on September 11, 2018.

2018 ISSF World Championships in Korea

The 52nd International Shooting Sport Federation World Championships were held in Changwon, South Korea from September 2 to 14, 2018. Elia Sdruccioli of Italy was the Junior World Champion in the Skeet Men event. The bronze medal went to 19-year-old Indian Gurnihal Singh Garcha, who closed his match with 46 hits out of 50 on September 11, 2018.

102 year old Indian Woman Wins Gold at Seniors Olympics

Man Kaur, a 102-year-old Chandigarh based athlete, won the 200m race in the 100-104 age group category in Spain. This was at the World Masters Athletics Championships which is considered the Olympics for senior citizens. Kaur finished with a time of 3 minutes and 14 seconds on September 9, 2018.

Selection Committee for Dronacharya and Dhyan Chand 2018 Awards

Justice Mukul Mudgal is known for his investigation into the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal. He has now been named the chairman of an 11-member selection committee which will pick the Dronacharya and Dhyan Chand awardees of this year. The Dronacharya award is presented to coaches for their constant work over a period of four years. The Dhyan Chand award is given to sportspersons for their contribution to sports and life-time achievements. The National Sports Awards ceremony will be held on September 25, 2018.
