Women's National Boxing Championship

The third edition of the Women's National Boxing Championships begin in Vijayanagara, Karnataka on December 31, 2018. It will feature more the 300 of the nation's best female boxers, aged between 19 and 40, across 10 weight categories.


Balkan Athlete of the Year

33 year old Luka Modric was named the Balkan Athlete of the year on December 27, 2018. Modric is Croatia’s captain and Spanish club Real Madrid’s midfielder. He beat Men’s tennis world number one player Novak Djokovic. Luka Modric also bagged player of the tournament at FIFA 2018 organized in Russia.


Ricky Ponting Makes it to the ICC Hall of Fame

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting was formally inducted into the International Cricket Council’s Hall of Fame on December 26, 2018. He has become the 25th Australian cricketer to be inducted. Ponting received his commemorative cap from compatriot ICC Cricket Hall of Famer Glenn McGrath during the tea break on the opening day of the third Test against India at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).


FIFA 2018 Global Rankings

Belgium ends the year as No. 1, ahead of world champions France, in the global rankings released by FIFA on December 27, 2018. Brazil, Croatia and England make up the top five, in that order.


BCCI to Pay Rs. 161 Crore Compensation


The International Cricket Council (ICC) asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to pay $23 million (Rs 161 crore) by the end of this year as compensation for the tax deductions incurred in hosting the 2016 World T20. Failure to do so would lead to BCCI losing the World Cup 2023 rights.
