Fastest Asian to Cycle the Globe
20-year-old cyclist from Maharashtra's Pune, Vedangi Kulkarni has become the fastest Asian to bicycle around the globe. She achieved this feat by completing the 29,000-km distance required to qualify as bicycling across the globe in 159 days. After pedalling up to 300 km a day in 14 countries across the 159 days, she reached Kolkata on December 23, 2018.
Senior National Rowing Championship in Pune
The 37th Senior National Rowing Championship at Army Rowing Node (ARN) in College of Military Engineering (CME) campus saw 439 rowers from the country in action from December 18, 2018. It is an opportunity for national rowers to earn a place in the national selection camp for 2019 world rowing championship.
NEB 24 Hour Stadium Run
28-year old ultra runner from Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh, Apoorva Chaudhary, created a national record by completing 176.8 km in the women’s 24-hour event at the NEB 24 Hour Stadium Run held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on December 17, 2018. Apoorva has also become the fourth Indian woman to run more than 100 miles (160 km) in 24 hours. Pranaya Mohanty from Bengaluru completed 206.8 km in the men’s 24-hour run held at the stadium on December 16, 2018. He has become the third Indian to have crossed the 200 km distance and the first to have achieved it in a stadium race held in India.
Anup Kumar Retires from Kabaddi
India's World Cup-winning kabaddi captain Anup Kumar announced his retirement on December 19, 2018. In an iconic 15-year career, he was part of the national team that won gold medals in 2010 and 2014. He was a recipient of the Arjuna Award in 2012.
Indian Women's Cricket Team gets New Coach
BCCI announced the appointing of former India opener W.V. Raman as head coach of the Indian women’s cricket team on December 20, 2018. Raman is best remembered for being the first Indian to score a century in South Africa during the 1992-93 tour.
