India, Pakistan Foreign Ministers to Meet in USA

Pakistan has requested India for a meeting between Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj and her Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi. Sushma Swaraj will be in New York from September 24 to 30 and will meet Shah Mahmood Qureshi on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Air Services Agreement Signed Between India and Morocco

The agreement was revised and signed between the two countries. It took three meetings of delegations from both countries to work towards market liberalization to update the existing Air Services Agreement. This enables the airlines of both to have a code share with each other. It will also result in more direct flights.

Mahatma Gandhi Convention Centre in Niger

India has offered to establish a Mahatma Gandhi convention centre in Niamey, Niger. The Mahatma Gandhi International Convention Centre (MGICC) will be established with the Indian government's grant assistance. It will honour the memory of Mahatma Gandhi, whose 150th birth anniversary will be observed in 2019.

Mumbai to Brussels Flight to be Discontinued

The national airline of Belgium, Brussels Airlines will put an end to its Mumbai to Brussels flight from January 7, 2019. The flight started this route in March 2017, marking the airlines' venture into India. However, it will be discontinued due to economic reasons.

India's Financial Contribution to UN Project

India will contribute USD 1 million for the installation of solar panels on the roof of the imposing UN building at the world body's headquarters in New York. India's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Syed Akbaruddin said that India is the 'first responder' to Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' call for climate action.  

Trump Suggests to Build a Wall Along the Sahara Desert

According to the Spanish Foreign Minister, U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested building a wall in the Sahara desert to restrict migrants. Spain is the main point of entry for migrants crossing the Mediterranean Sea.

Pakistan asks Saudi Arabia to Join China-Pakistan Economic Corridor

Saudi Arabia agreed to invest in the infrastructure and industrial projects of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), becoming the third strategic partner. The CPEC corridor will link Gwadar in Pakistan and Xinjiang in northwest China. CPEC is the main project of Chinese President Xi Jinping's 'Belt and Road Initiative' (BRI).

Aviaindra-18, India-Russia Joint Air Force Exercise

The bi-annual joint exercise is currently underway at Lipetsk, Russia from September 17 to 28, 2018. The 12-day drill focuses on anti-terrorist operations. The second leg of Aviaindra-18 will be in Jodhpur, India from December 10 to December 22, 2018. The first Aviaindra was conducted in 2014.

Show of Unity After Pyongyang Summit by Presidents

In an eventful extension of the Pyongyang summit held in North Korea, the Presidents of both the countries indulged in a show of unity on the last day of the North South summit. The North Korean leader Kim Jong un, and South Korean President Moon Jae-in, visited Mount Paektu, the spiritual birthplace of the Korean nation along with their wives.

Seventh UNWTO Global Summit on Urban Tourism

Organized by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the theme of the summit was, A 2030 Vision for Urban Tourism. It was held in Seoul, South Korea from September 16 to September 19, 2018. The Summit provides a unique platform to exchange experiences and expertise on urban tourism.

Seoul Wants to Strengthen Ties with India

President Moon Jae-in of South Korea wishes to deepen ties with South East Asian nations and India, as part of one of the government’s foreign policy initiatives, ‘New Southern Policy ’. South Korea wants to build stronger ties with ASEAN and India on economic, bilateral and strategic fronts.

MoU Signed Between India and Sri Lanka

An MoU was signed between the two countries for construction of a 5000 metric ton temperature controlled warehouse on September 17, 2018 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The MoU was signed by Taranjit Singh Sandhu, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka and K.D.S. Ruwanchandra, Secretary to Sri Lankan Ministry of National Policies and Economic Affairs. The warehouse to be constructed in Dambulla, Sri Lanka will receive financial assistance of Sri Lankan Rupees 30 crore from India. It will benefit the farming community of both the countries by storing fruit and vegetables during surplus production, to avoid wastage.
