World's First Sovereign Blue Bond Launched

A financial bond to help sustainable marine and fisheries projects, sovereign Blue Bond was launched by the Republic of Seychelles on October 29, 2018. Seychelles is the first nation to initiate such a bond.

UN Human Rights Prize to Pakistani Human Rights Activist

The UN General Assembly announced the UN Human Rights Prize to be given posthumously to late Pakistani human rights activist, Asma Jahangir. The announcement came through the President of the UN General Assembly Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces, on October 26, 2018. Jahangir is the fourth Pakistani woman to have been given this award. Before this, Begum Ra'ana Liaquat Ali Khan (1978), Benazir Bhutto (2008) and Malala Yousufzai (2013) have been recipients of this honour.

India and Bangladesh Sign Agreements

The two countries signed several agreements to improve inland and coastal waterways connectivity on October 25, 2018. Bangladesh in return, will soon be opening up Chattogram and Mongla ports for trade with India. All this took place at the 19th Standing Committee meeting under Protocol on Inland Water Transit and Trade (PIWTT) held at New Delhi.

First Female President of Ethiopia Appointed

Sahle-Work Zewde was appointed as the first female President of Ethiopia on October 25, 2018. She will serve two six-year terms as President.

Indian Visa Now to be Given to Foreigners After Revealing Criminal Records

The new visa format for Indian visa requires declaration of criminal records of the applicant. The decision was taken by the Union Home Ministry after a request from the Women and Child Development Ministry.
