Learn Number Ranking Formula

There are around 3-5 ranking and positioning questions where you can be asked about a person's position from the left, right, top or bottom of a row/class. You can also be asked to calculate the total number of persons based on the position/rank of a given person. You can quickly answer these questions by using some number ranking shortcuts and ensure 3-5 marks.

1. Total number of persons = {(sum of positions of the same person from both sides i.e. left and right side) – 1}

Example: In a row of students, A's position from the left side is 25 and from the right side, his position is 35. What is the total number of students in the row?

Total students= (Position of A from Left + Position of A from right) - 1

Total students= (25+35) - 1 = 59

2) Position of a person from opposite side = {(Total no. of persons – Position of the same person from the given side) +1}

3) Total no. of persons = No. of persons after or before the given person in a row + Position of the same person from the other side

4) No. of persons after or before the given person in a row = Total no. of persons – Position of the same person from another side
