    Reasoning Ability Preparation Tips

    Training

After you crack the exam and clear the interview round, you will be given the appointment letter, which is the beginning of your journey as an SBI PO. The life at bank starts with training where you will get 2-year branch posting as scale 1. Seniors will train you in different departments including personal banking, government section, SME, currency chest, pension department, clearing house and NRI business, among others. Along with the departments, location of the trainee is also changed during these years. So, you might get two transfers in two years of training.

    Confirmation cum promotion test

On completing your training, you will have to appear for a confirmation cum promotion test. You need to clear this test with 60% marks to get a direct scale 2 promotion. SBI PO online mock tests can help you prepare for this exam as these give you an idea of the questions asked in the test.

    Post of Assistant Manager

After successfully completing the 2-year probation period, you will get the post of Assistant Manager in any of the branches. Responsibilities of this role are general banking and bank administration. However, looking at the constantly changing consumer behaviour, now SBI PO officer is also expected to have excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

    Responsibilities of an SBI PO

    •    Completing all the pending work is the major responsibility during the probation period of two years. Not just one bank, you can also be transferred to other branches for the same task.

    •    Any routine work like scrolling, posting and account preparation can be given to you during training in order to help you acquire practical knowledge in finance, accounting, billing, investment and marketing.

    •    As an Assistant Manager, your responsibilities will increase further and you will get targets to grow the bank business. Managing cash, loans, mortgages and finances are some of the common responsibilities as an AM.

    •    Based on your performance, knowledge and past records, you can further be assigned more responsibilities including planning, budgeting, marketing, loan approval and processing and investment management, to name a few.

    •    Verifying all the tasks accomplished by the bank clerk is another major duty of an SBI PO officer.

Perks and Allowances of SBI PO

Perks and allowances are the major attractions of banking jobs. There are numerous benefits of SBI PO post like eligibility for Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Travel Allowance, Medical Aid, City Compensatory Allowance and Furniture Allowance. In addition to this, probationary officers also get concessional interest on the house loan, personal loan and car loan.

As you can see, there is a lot of hard work involved in SBI PO job, still, it is considered a better option than private jobs in IT companies. Travel, all the employee benefits, work-life balance and learning are some of the benefits that still make bank PO job an attractive choice. Though you might come across many rumours also like life as bank PO officer is hell due to extreme pressure and high targets, never believe everything without analysing the situation yourself.

To ensure that you are well prepared for the exam, complete your syllabus in time, revise regularly and solve SBI online mock tests. Don't just dream of an SBI PO's life. How to score well in SBI PO English language section?

    Post Revision by

    Neha Gore

SBI PO 2019 Prelims exam for 2000 vacancies will be conducted from June 8, 2019. To grab the opportunity of getting a job in SBI, you first need to prepare well for the exam. SBI PO is conducted in three phases - Prelims, Mains and Personal Interview, and to crack the exam, you need to qualify all three stages. As per SBI PO syllabus, the question paper is divided into three sections - Reasoning Ability, Quantitative Aptitude and English Language. English section is an important and scoring section in SBI PO exam. In this article, we are sharing some helpful tips to prepare for SBI PO English section and to score well in the final exam.

    Topic-wise preparation tips

English section is further divided into four sections. To score well in SBI PO English language section, you need to work on all the sections. The grammar section is usually of 10 marks while in Reading comprehension section with 3 questions on vocabulary and 3 questions from the passage. Similarly, the vocabulary section also has around 10 questions with fill in the blanks. To meet the sectional cut-off, you need to work on all the sections. Given below are some tips for different sections for SBI PO English preparation:

Grammar: In this section, you have to spot errors which require good command at grammar. Learn and understand different grammar rules by referring to books like Wren and Martin, Objective General English by S. P Bakshi etc.

Vocabulary: To work on your vocabulary, read at least 2-3 articles from newspapers and magazines daily. Make a list of new words and go through the same at least once every day. You can also refer to 'Word Power Made Easy' by Norman Lewis. This can help you in staying aware of the current affairs as well as help you with vocabulary.

Reading Comprehension: For this, you need to have good reading speed along with a strong processing ability. Only regular practice can help you improve your reading speed. Make a habit of reading books, newspapers and magazines. As far as solving the questions is concerned, it is always a good habit to read the entire passage carefully first rather than just randomly searching for answers. Once you have read the passage carefully, you might get an idea of the answers while you jump to the questions section in SBI PO.

    Time is the key

SBI has recently introduced sectional timing in the exam. So now you cannot spend a lot of time on a single section and slow reading speed affects it usually. You need to work on your reading, understanding and answering techniques to solve maximum questions in the given time. This is possible only by practising enough mock tests, reading magazines and solving previous year questions.

    Solve mock tests

This is one of the best ways to check your SBI PO English preparation level, understand your mistakes and improve for the final exam. Further, solving SBI PO online mock tests on platforms like Eduwhere in the real-time exam like environment will help you boost your confidence and form the right strategies for the D-day.

English plays a vital role in final selection in SBI PO. So, work hard as well as smart and follow the tips given here to strengthen your command on the English Language.
