How to score well in SBI PO English language section?
SBI PO 2019 Prelims exam for 2000 vacancies will be conducted from June 8, 2019. To grab the opportunity of getting a job in SBI, you first need to prepare well for the exam. SBI PO is conducted in three phases - Prelims, Mains and Personal Interview, and to crack the exam, you need to qualify all three stages. As per SBI PO syllabus, the question paper is divided into three sections - Reasoning Ability, Quantitative Aptitude and English Language. English section is an important and scoring section in SBI PO exam. In this article, we are sharing some helpful tips to prepare for SBI PO English section and to score well in the final exam.
Topic-wise preparation tips
English section is further divided into four sections. To score well in SBI PO English language section, you need to work on all the sections. The grammar section is usually of 10 marks while in Reading comprehension section with 3 questions on vocabulary and 3 questions from the passage. Similarly, the vocabulary section also has around 10 questions with fill in the blanks. To meet the sectional cut-off, you need to work on all the sections. Given below are some tips for different sections for SBI PO English preparation:
Grammar: In this section, you have to spot errors which require good command at grammar. Learn and understand different grammar rules by referring to books like Wren and Martin, Objective General English by S. P Bakshi etc.
Vocabulary: To work on your vocabulary, read at least 2-3 articles from newspapers and magazines daily. Make a list of new words and go through the same at least once every day. You can also refer to 'Word Power Made Easy' by Norman Lewis. This can help you in staying aware of the current affairs as well as help you with vocabulary.
Reading Comprehension: For this, you need to have good reading speed along with a strong processing ability. Only regular practice can help you improve your reading speed. Make a habit of reading books, newspapers and magazines. As far as solving the questions is concerned, it is always a good habit to read the entire passage carefully first rather than just randomly searching for answers. Once you have read the passage carefully, you might get an idea of the answers while you jump to the questions section in SBI PO.
Time is the key
SBI has recently introduced sectional timing in the exam. So now you cannot spend a lot of time on a single section and slow reading speed affects it usually. You need to work on your reading, understanding and answering techniques to solve maximum questions in the given time. This is possible only by practising enough mock tests, reading magazines and solving previous year questions.
Solve mock tests
This is one of the best ways to check your SBI PO English preparation level, understand your mistakes and improve for the final exam.
