Joint Entrance Examination (Main), is an all india Engineering entrance exam which is conducted by CBSE to shortlist aspiring candidates seeking admission to undergraduate engineering programmes to Centrally-funded technical institutions such as NIT (National Institute of Technology), IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) and other reputed institutes. The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is bifurcated into JEE (Main) examination and JEE (Advanced) examination.

The JEE (Main) exam is essentially the first screening test for the IITs. The exam is basically an eligibility test for JEE (Advanced) i.e only those candidates who will qualify in the JEE (Main) examination will be allowed to appear for JEE (Advanced) examination conducted exclusively for IITs.

Eligibility Criteria

Interested applicants must fulfill the following eligibility criteria to appear for the said examination

Note –
  1. There shall be no weightage for the 12th class marks for calculating the rankings in JEE for admissions to undergraduate engineering courses.

  2. For the candidates to qualify for the admission in the IITs/NITs/IIITs and such other CFTIs whose admissions are based on the JEE (Advanced)/JEE(Main) ranks, they should have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th class examination, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class examination conducted by the respective Boards. For SC/ST students the qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12th class examination.
